I aspire to be public-facing in my research, teaching, and scholarship. I hope to inspire social change by bringing data and rigorous research tools outside of the ivory tower, and integrating community-oriented perspectives within higher education. I regularly speak at academic conferences, with community groups and journalists, and to other audiences.
Beyond academia, my efforts focus on:
I spent more than four years as the Learning and Evaluation Officer at the Steelcase Foundation, which uses a social justice lens to support projects that improve equity and opportunities in Grand Rapids, Michigan and in Athens, Alabama.
I support a range of clients with research, writing, and editing services. My consulting is premised on propelling clients' ideas to impact, leveraging my years of experience in conducting best practice and landscape research, program design, detailed implementation, and quality impact assessment. GENDER & ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Before embarking on my PhD, I served as the Assistant Director of the Grand Valley State University Center for Women and Gender Equity and taught in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at GVSU. I have expertise in university-community engagement, including designing and leading service-learning initiatives both domestically and in South Africa. I've also worked as a case manager for families experiencing homelessness and directed a food pantry serving college students facing food insecurity.
